Poster Board Project

  Poster Board Project Out of all of the many demographics that make up U of D, the starkest is one no one ever thinks about: the average academy student vs an honors senior. Without doing any prior research on the topic, I believe it is fair to say that most academy kids either hate reading, or at the very least do little to none of it in their free time. The question that is being begged is why? To get to the bottom of this mystery of the academy’s dislike of reading, it is imperative to know why they aren’t very fond of it. This requires interviewing them, to pick their brain on what specific things draw them away from reading. I will ask them four quick questions: their name, their grade, if they like reading, and if no why not. The plan would be to interview at least 10 of them, as their answers will definitely repeat multiple times.       In elementary and middle school, English was always a class that I was good at, but never one that I actually felt any kind of way for. This also did not change in freshman year, as having English class over a zoom call was boring and tedious. Coming into Mr. Davidson's English class fifth hour sophomore year I had no expectations of liking it (especially after the boring summer reading). I was absolutely blown away by how much I began to enjoy English. This budding love was cemented by reading The Great Gatsby, which was taught perfectly. Reading the novel side by side with the movie truly allowed me to visualize the novel in a way I never had been able to before. This along with the fascinating color symbolization made me desperately want to do two things in my junior year: get an A on a paper and take honors.
