Science Fiction/Fantasy

I absolutely love science fiction. To be honest, reading has never really been something that interested me much. What did always interest me alot, though, was watching science fiction/fantasy tv shows and movies. Being placed in these fantasy worlds has always been fascinating to me, which is why I have always loved worlds like Star Wars, Marvel, Steven Universe, and many other fanticiing stories. I haven’t really read many science fiction stories, but the ones that I have read have been manga. I love these as well, as again you are placing yourself in another fun world.

My favorite would by far have to be Star Wars. This is of course the most boring chice I could have gone with, but when asked the question, this was the franchise I kept thinking of. I have been consuming Star Wars media literally my entire life. Whether it was reading books, watching The Clone Wars show (which I have done 3 times), watching the movies, having the toys, or even playing Star Wars games, I always return to it. I would love to live in Star Wars, most specifically on Corasaunt during the Republic era. It is an absolutely massive city that kind of reminds me of a futuristic Detroit, and one I have always dreamed of living in.

  ​The Project- I chose to do a poster project, as I felt as though it would be the easiest way to reach the academy students in an impactful way, in order to be able to convince them to read. As previously stated, the purpose of my project was to figure out the core reasons why some academy students don’t read, and to show them that by reading more and taking more challenging English classes, that they will not only improve their reading skills but maybe even like it as well.  The Poster- I choose to have the format of the poster be three small posters on one big poster, with silver borders on the big poster board. Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Book Store Review

William McConico Mr Davidson Contemporary Literature, 2nd Period   September 13th , 2023 AMDG  Penumbra Book Review *spoiler alert Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan is a mysterious 21st century novel that follows Clay Jannon navigating Mr. Penumbra’s mysterious bookstore. Clay gets this job after seeing a flier in the window of the store, and coming in to get the job. He accepted the mysterious job, with horrible night hours, as it was the 2008 recession and he just needed a job. When employed by Mr. Penumbra is told to write detailed descriptions of the customers, be extremely punctual, and to never ever read the books. Clay lives with his roommates Matt and Ashley, with the former being super artsy and the latter being very organized. When Matt comes in and looks at some of the books, Clay realizes there is more to the store, and begins his investigation. Poster Board Project

  Poster Board Project Out of all of the many demographics that make up U of D, the starkest is one no one ever thinks about: the average academy student vs an honors senior. Without doing any prior research on the topic, I believe it is fair to say that most academy kids either hate reading, or at the very least do little to none of it in their free time. The question that is being begged is why? To get to the bottom of this mystery of the academy’s dislike of reading, it is imperative to know why they aren’t very fond of it. This requires interviewing them, to pick their brain on what specific things draw them away from reading. I will ask them four quick questions: their name, their grade, if they like reading, and if no why not. The plan would be to interview at least 10 of them, as their answers will definitely repeat multiple times.
